Officials reported that the Heavenly resort ski patrol found Bonos bloody body partially obscured by a thick grove of trees about 150 feet off Upper Orion on the Nevada side of Heavenly at approximately 6:45 p.m., following a search of the mountain that evening. Bono, 62, had been skiing at Lake Tahoe since Dec. 26 and was killed while traveling through a heavily wooded section of mountainside. So there was justification for national news organizations to send full crews to sunny Palm Springs for a week. The program enjoyed great popularity for several years before going off the air in 1974.
